The first Groundlings performance she saw transformed her life. She dropped out of college then became a member of The Groundlings to pursue the profession, and didn't look back.

She eventually settled in Los Angeles. The Kunis family came to the United States with just $250. It was a difficult start. Kunis' parents, both of whom gave up their professional jobs to relocate to a better location for their children and were determined to create a better life for their children. Mark, a former mechanical engineer, quickly was employed as a taxi driver, and Elvira, who had taught physics in Ukraine and later became the manager of a pharmacy. Kunis admitted that he did not understand American culture at first. I didn't get the culture. I didn't understand their language.
