Padma Parvati Lakshmi, a daughter of Padma Parvati Lakshmi, was born in Chennai, India, on September 1st 1970. Lakshmi lost her parents when she was just two years old. Her mother emigrated to the United States to escape the stigma of divorce in India. Lakshmi was a resident for two years with her grandparents in Chennai, before she came to the United States. The couple divorced, and she has two younger siblings.
