Lea Katherine Thompson

Thompson was born in Rochester, Minnesota on May 31st, 1961. She is one of five kids of Clifford Barry Thompson and Barbara Barry Thompson. Thompson is the sister of Coleen Goodrich and Shannon Katona, and two brothers, Andrew and Barry. Her mother is Irish. Mikhail Baryshnikov (the director of the artistic department at the time) informed her that she was a great dancer, but that she was too big. She described the moment as "my epiphany" when she made the decision to give up dancing and to become an ballet dancer. It was a truly memorable moment. If it wasn't for that, I'd have been smashing my head into a wall for another 10plus years. "[She changed to acting. She relocated to New York at the age of 20 and appeared in a number of Burger King commercials in the 1980s, along with Sarah Michelle Gellar. Her co-star in Back to the Future Part II was Elisabeth Shue. and also her debut film in 1983 with Jaws in 3-D. She recalls the film as "the first movie I've ever seen, however I was lying and claimed that I'd seen some other films and when I turned up, I knew almost nothing about. I also claimed that I was able to waterski. And I didn't. I had to learn water-skiing techniques that were very difficult to master in just five days, because I had to take part in the Sea World water skiing show. I don't even have the ability to swim!" She followed this up with All the Right Moves (1983), Red Dawn (1984) and The Wild Life (1984).
